thumbs up‼ great coneys‼ and a comfy atmosphere.thats all. GREAT PLACE TO EAT. ‼
There's always debate about who makes the best coney's. Someone wrote a book about it ("Coney Detroit") and MLive did a series of articles trying to find the best coney dog in Michigan. I am not lying when I tell you that John's has been making the BEST coneys since 1975! I should know, I've been enjoying them since the place first opened. AND I have had many other great coneys from all over the State to compare with. These are the best. What makes them so awesome? John's coneys have all the traditional ingredients of a Flint style coney (koegel's dog, steamed bun, meat sauce, mustard, onions). The dogs are cooked on the grill. I believe they use spanish onions and do not chop as fine as many other places. The real difference is in the sauce. My guess is there's a little extra cayenne pepper and/or paprika. It definitely has a red hue to it and just a little spicy bite that helps the sauce stick out vs. the stronger onions. If you are a coney aficionado, you need to give this place a try. Super friendly wait staff, fast service, good coffee, crispy fries.
My hubby and I went there for the first time and we had a really good breakfast this morning. Everyone was so nice. I was in heaven with the best Western Omlet with sausage gravy I had in a long time. Thank you John's restaurant. I give this a 5 star..
